Michel Chataigne is one of Haiti’s premier designers. His designs have been featured on Runways in Jamaica, the Bahamas, London, Spain, Miami, New York, Martinique, Santo Domingo, Turks and Caicos, and recently during Haiti’s first Fashion Week. When asked why he chose to design a Bird of Paradise flower instead of Haiti’s Native Hibiscus, Chataigne stated that there are many regions in Haiti where the Bird of Paradise grows in the wild. He says that this plant is in extinction and that it also part of Haiti’s culture and some his best childhood memories growing up in Haiti.
